Black Metallic OE is a Caridina shrimp distinguished by its deep black body, reflective metallic pigmentation and contrasting orange eyes. The photographed shrimp shows a predominantly dark, opaque body with blue-to-purple iridescent highlights across the head, back and legs, producing a striking metallic appearance under directional light. Its clearly visible orange eye provides strong contrast against the dark body and is a defining feature of the OE phenotype. Metallic coverage, reflective colour and overall intensity can vary naturally between individuals, giving each shrimp a slightly different appearance while retaining the characteristic Black Metallic OE phenotype.
Black Metallic OE should be maintained in a mature, fully cycled aquarium with stable soft, slightly acidic water. A buffering active substrate and remineralised RO water are suitable for maintaining the low KH and controlled mineral content generally preferred by specialised Caridina lines. Provide established biofilm, mosses and other grazing surfaces alongside a balanced shrimp diet. Avoid abrupt changes in temperature, TDS or water chemistry, particularly during acclimation and water changes. Consistent conditions are more important than repeatedly adjusting parameters, especially when maintaining or breeding selectively developed metallic Caridina.
